Here, we meet Dennis Koh, Site Manager of Stahl Singapore.
Dennis shares insights into the challenges and opportunities behind the state-of-the-art Polyurethane Dispersion (PUD) facility in Singapore, and how it supports Stahl’s commitment to innovation and sustainability.
Stahl's new facility in Singapore: A leap forward in sustainability and innovation
In October 2024, Stahl opened a cutting-edge Polyurethane Dispersion (PUD) facility in Singapore. This new facility marks a significant step in the company’s journey towards more sustainable, water-based solutions in the coatings and leather industries. We spoke with Dennis about what it took to bring this facility to life and how it fits into Stahl’s broader sustainability goals.
What were the biggest challenges in setting up the new PUD facility?
The biggest challenge we faced was that the PUD process was entirely new to our team here in Singapore. We had to design the facility based on concept alone, which required a lot of close collaboration and a steep learning curve for everyone involved. The team, however, rose to the challenge and delivered exceptional results. The successful start-up of this facility is a testament to our team's dedication and ability to adapt.
How does the new PUD facility support Stahl’s sustainability goals?
The PUD process is inherently water-based, providing an eco-friendly alternative to solvent-based solutions. This shift is crucial for our customers who are seeking more sustainable options. By offering water-based PUD, we not only help our customers transition to greener alternatives but also align with Stahl’s broader commitment to sustainability in the coatings and leather industries.
What are the growth opportunities for PUD in the Asia-Pacific Region?
With the new facility operational, Stahl is well-positioned to grow in the Asia-Pacific region. The PUD plant dramatically reduces lead times for customers within de region, improving responsiveness to market demands. Additionally, sourcing raw materials within this region allows Stahl to be more competitive in the region.
As the Asia-Pacific market continues to grow, this facility gives us a competitive edge by enabling quicker deliveries and more cost-effective solutions. This is a key opportunity for us to strengthen our presence and expand our customer base in this dynamic market.
Thank you to Dennis for sharing your story! We are proud of our people who make a difference every day and strive for excellence together. Stay tuned for more 'People of Stahl' features!
