Stahl’s sustainability strategy for a better future
As a market leader, we should set the standard for environmental care and responsible citizenship. That’s why our Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) strategy focuses on creating responsible chemistry for a better future. In our view, an ESG strategy is fundamental to providing superior products and outstanding services. You can’t have the one without the other.
ESG efforts
Stahl’s goal is to achieve a transparent supply chain that continuously reduces our environmental footprint. In particular the focus is on the supply chain into which Stahl sells its products and services. We therefore initiate activities that promote transparency and introduce low-impact technologies designed to maximize environmental protection and stewardship. Our influencer position is a key factor. As a provider of products and services to manufacturers of materials used in the automotive, apparel, home furnishing, footwear, garment and other industries, we see ESG as a significant opportunity to gain a competitive advantage and drive operational excellence throughout the company.

The Stahl Sustainability Standard: improving our environmental footprint
We do many things to improve our environmental footprint. These range from developing innovative products to publishing environmental indicators for our activities around the world. A commitment to ethical business practices is central to the Stahl Code of Conduct, and we have an ambitious global awareness campaign for our Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) policy. We have also made exciting technology acquisitions and formed partnerships that are directly linked to our sustainability goals. As part of this, we have identified 5 Focus Areas – The Stahl Sustainability Standard – to guide us. The 5 Focus Areas cover: raw materials, responsible operations, trusted partnerships, innovative solutions and people & society.
Responsible Chemistry
Complementing the Stahl Sustainability Standard, we defined Responsible Chemistry and ushered it into our industry. The idea is to use our expertise to improve the performance of existing materials and productionize breakout ones. This means adopting low-impact manufacturing chemicals and actively using biotechnology to replace the use of finite resources with renewable ones. We consider sustainability across the entirety of our supply chain and in the context of a circular economy..
United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
Stahl’s membership in the UN Global Compact and our alignment to the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals is a clear indication of our commitment to a more sustainable future. To demonstrate our progress, the Stahl Corporate Responsibility & Sustainability Report is submitted each year to the UN Global Compact..
Global Reporting Initiative
We use the guidelines set out in the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) to report on Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) topics that are critical to Stahl and our stakeholders. The materiality matrix methodology ensures we address material topics, i.e.: the ones that matter to the company and our stakeholders. This approach ensures we take into account the full scope of our activities, from our own operations to our interactions with suppliers, customers, consumers, communities, shareholders, government and NGOs.
