High performance auxiliaries for leather finishing
Stahl offers a range of high-performance finishing auxiliaries for leather coatings for automotive, garment, shoes and leather goods, and upholstery applications. These provide properties like defoaming, foam stabilizing, leveling, thickening and thinning for sealer, base and top coats and dyes for a range of leathers, enabling formulators and manufacturers to add the highest-quality finishes.

Auxiliaries for a full range of applications
Our range of finishing auxiliaries help formulators and manufacturers to add the highest-quality finishes and dyes to a range of leathers. These auxiliaries are used in coatings and dyes to improve their application and functionality. Stahl’s range of auxiliaries includes defoamers, foam stabilizers, leveling aids, rheology modifiers (thickeners), and thinners. Defoamers successfully prevent foaming in sealer coats, base coats, and top coats, while our foam stabilizer Melio® Foam AX-03 adds high stability to foam finishes on top coats.
Leveling agents for improved flow and application
Stahl’s leveling agents can add a range of leveling and flow benefits as well as additional advantages, especially when dyeing leather. For example, our LA-13-688 improves the flow from spray coatings, while LA-1688 encourages extensibility in Roller Coat machine applications. Melio® P-4894.A helps reduce viscosity in sealer, base, and top coats, while acting as a very effective leveler.
Rheology modifiers to create a thick finishing coat
Stahl also offers a range of rheology modifiers including concentrated and non-ionic thickeners, which can help customize flow and viscosity. In particular, Aqualen® Paste VN.A enables thick aqueous top coats, while our non-ionic thickener RM-4400 creates high-performance waterborne top coats, and non-ionic thickener RM-4414 is ideal for roller coating of sealer, base, and top coats.
Thinners
We also offer thinners that are suitable for various types of finishing coats and lacquers. DL-2245, which can be used with sealer and base coats, thins solvent and emulsion lacquers and is particularly suitable for dye coatings. DL-2216 is perfect for solvent lacquers and urethane top coats, while solvent DL-2222 is designed for NC (nitrocellulose) and CAB (cellulose acetate butyrate) solutions, and also provides glossiness and optimum flow.
